Gregory Petty, PhD

Professor Emeritus

Biography

Gregory C. Petty, PhD was a member of the Board of Delegates for the National Safety Council where he served as Technical Advisor for Research for the College and University Strategic Advisory Group for Education Activities. He received his PhD from the University of Missouri, Columbia and recently participated in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Graduate Summer Institute of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and has completed the University of Michigan, School of Public Health Graduate Biostatistics Program. He is a veteran of the United States Navy Nuclear Submarine Service, and is the author of more than 100 refereed articles, books, and technical reports, 54 educational videos, and has made more than 90 scholarly presentations at national, regional and state conferences. He has received numerous professional awards and was awarded Author of the Year by the AATEA Journal and Outstanding Research Manuscript for the Journal of Industrial Teacher Education. He most recently received the Award of Merit for Research by the National Safety Council in Anaheim California.

His primary research areas are work ethic for a healthy life, behavioral issues for safety and health including occupational stress, and psychometric measures of performance, attitude, and self-efficacy. He also has published numerous articles on workforce development and was principal author and analyst for the Child Fatality Review Analysis for the Tennessee Department of Health. Dr. Petty is certified as an American Red Cross (First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Care) instructor and holds an NCATE and Missouri Life Certificate for teaching (Technology Education and Social Studies). He has received numerous service and research awards and has been an Organizational, Safety and HR Consultant.
